See also: We Hate Los Angeles
A couple of weeks ago we showed Valley hockey fans some support with a "We Hate Los Angeles" themed blog post as the Coyotes prepared to face off against the L.A. Kings for the NHL Western Conference championship.
It was a chance to not only beat up on big brother, the role L.A. often takes when compared to Phoenix, but also to earn a shot at winning the whole enchilada at the Stanley Cup Finals. After five games and a heart-wrenching overtime loss last week, the 'Yotes found their season at an end. Instead, the Kings and the New Jersey Devils will be the ones vying for hockey's coveted prize during game one of the finals tonight.
After being eliminated from contention by a hated rival, Arizona hockey fans must now decide who to root for. Will they embrace the team repping the west coast, or hope that the Devil's vanquish their conquerors? "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em," right? While you're deciding, here are four songs to remind you why L.A. deserves some love.
X, "Los Angeles"
You might be wondering why I would start off with a song that says, "She had to leave, Los Angeles," but wanting to leave L.A. is part of the experience of living there. Yes, there's traffic, the streets run rampant with crime, and a blanket of smog tops the whole damn thing off; but if it weren't for all of the dirt and grime, one of punk rock's quintessential bands may not have found its inspiration.
2Pac featuring Dr. Dre, "California Love"
"We in that sunshine state where that bomb ass hemp be, the state where ya never find a dance floor empty. And pimps be on a mission for them greens, lean mean money-makin'-machines servin' fiends."
California gets mad love from, "San Diego to tha Bay," but this song is all about L.A. Late night eats, bumpin' parties, and enough packed streets to make sure everyone sees you when you're cruisin' the boulevard at night.
Guns N' Roses, "Welcome to the Jungle"
"Welcome to the jungle we've got fun and games, we got everything you want honey, we know the names. We are the people that can find whatever you may need, if you got the money honey we got your disease."
You really can pick your poison in L.A, One of the true meccas of the music world: the city has spawned some of the most prolific bands in recording history. Whatever crowd you run in, whatever scene you claim, you can find it in L.A.
Beach Boys, "California Girls"
"The West Coast has the sunshine, and the girls all get so tanned. I dig a French bikini on Hawaii Island, I'm lost by a palm tree in the sand."
And how can anyone forget the girls, girls, girls?
