Friendship has some effin’ sweet benefits when you’re pals with London West Records owner Matty Spangler. The 28-year-old DJ frequently books his turntablist buds to blast out house and trance tracks at the Ballroom (adjacent to Myst, 7340 East Shoeman Lane in Scottsdale) every Friday night at the aptly named gig London West Records & Friends. The event’s a complement to Myst’s weekly House 7340 shindig. “I was always getting asked to do opening sets at House 7340, and they were always asking me to bring some other DJs with me to play,” Spangler says. “Basically, I just started to bring all these guys along as well as all my records so eventually, I started booking the Ballroom every week.” The particular Spangler sidekicks who’ll be spinning on Friday, September 14 (while Chicago house god Bad Boy Bill rocks Myst), include tech-house turntablists Beatnick, Shane Jacot, and Nick VanDiver. Doors open at 9:30 p.m. and admission costs $10 (although you can e-mail londonwest@cox.net for a possible discount). Call 480-829-8080.
