Once a year, we at New Times have the pleasure of sending a local beat-mechanic off to Miami during the dance-centric Winter Music Conference to play for thousands of people at the Ultra Music Festival. But before that happens, you have the chance to see the contenders throw down, with a panel of judges lurking in the shadows to decide who this year’s representative from the ‘Nix will be. Could it be Batucada house music and hip-hop veteran DJ Senbad? Perhaps fellow house-head Tranzit? Or DJ Maji, with his blend of house, nu-jazz, and Afro-beat? Maybe Pablo Gomez, spinning deep house and electro? Or will the ladies represent this year, thanks to Sonique des Fleurs and her house/trance mix? If you have a favorite amongst these, make sure you show up at Myst in Scottsdale on Friday, March 10 — flood the dance floor with undulating ass cheeks so the judges can see exactly who deserves to bring the desert beats to Miami Beach.
Will you step up to support New Times this year?
At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $16,750 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
