The Evans-Churchill Neighborhood in downtown Phoenix just gets cooler by the week. The hepcat ‘hood (located along Roosevelt Street between Central Avenue and Seventh Street) not only serves as the epicenter for the monthly First Friday hootenanny, but it also boasts some bomb-ass, arty hangouts like The Lost Leaf, Carly’s Bistro, and The Roosevelt. Add one more to the list, as the newly opened watering hole nextDOOR, 901 North Fourth Street, will soon become your favorite place to chillax on the weekend with a glass of vino while catching some beats from DJs from around the Valley and across the nation. The nightspot celebrates its grand opening on Friday, November 2, with a spin session by indie/electro duo LA Riots, as well as Florida’s DJ Iowatest, and a performance by electronic pop outfit Edison Gem. The party continues the next night on Saturday, November 3, when Tampa turntablist DJ Monk brings his trademark dreadlocks and taste for hard house and breakbeats to the joint along with local wax worker Mendez. The music starts at 9 p.m. both nights with no cover. Call 602-254-6424.
