Former Tucsonan Justin Champlin has roots in area bands like The Okmoniks, Sneaky Pinks, and Golden Boots, but since 2001, he’s occasionally donned a rabbit mask, stripped down to his skivvies, and blasted out barebones rock ‘n’ roll as Nobunny. The songs play like a sloppy mixtape from a boozy friend you haven’t seen in a while: Tracks like “Apple Tree” ape Everly Brothers sweetness, “I Am a Girlfriend” takes a Ramones approach (complete with some serial killer dialogue), and “Blow Dumb” is a buzzy, razor-blade-in-the-bubblegum rocker. The horny cottontail vibe will be on full display as Nobunny takes the stage for a free weeknight gig at the Yucca, with local art-punk weirdos JJCnV and Mangled Men providing extra incentive to catch Nobunny scaring off the straggling cowboy regulars, in his bikini briefs and leather jacket. And mask. Don’t forget that mask.
