Now Closed: Donna Jean's Libations in Glendale

Cool, dive-y live music venues in the West Valley are very few and far between. And there's apparently one fewer as of this writing, as Donna Jean's Libations over in Glendale has closed.

Recent rumors of the bar's recent demise led us to its Facebook page, where proprietor, um, Donna Jean posted that her namesake's last day of operation was this past Sunday. Local rockers Tell Me About the Rabbits (who were regulars on its stage) got the honor of being the last band to pull a gig there.

Though a varied cross-section of Valley acts and performers from multiple genres (classic rock, folk, indie, hip-hop) lugged their gear to Donna Jean's, it was a common weekend destination for harder and harsher local rock bands most Friday and Saturday nights -- where the cover was generally only three bucks -- with a flair for punk shows. Metal was also big there.

Acts like Graceful Degradation, The Venomous Pinks, Tracey Rappa and the Heat, and the aforementioned Tell Me About the Rabbits were all regulars at the place. Even longtime New Times contributor/musician Serene Dominic played there once.

Sadly, Donna Jean's joins a graveyard of west-side music joints, alongside Rogue West, Copper State Tavern, and SKYE.
