Independent Journalism in Phoenix Needs You
We need to raise $15,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
British tabloid NME has a penchant for overstating it — you know, a new “savoir of rock” every couple weeks — but they’re right on the money with this one: the January 7 issue of the magazine spotlights Phoenix-based Otro Mundo as one of the 100 New Bands You Have to Hear in 2012.
The Otro Mundo guys guess that they were selected by Milk Music, from Olympia, WA, but the issue features picks from Noel Gallagher, The Arctic Monkeys, Johnny Marr, The Horrors, and more.
I picked Otro Mundo’s Jellied as one of my favorite releases of 2011, and will be interested to see what the magazine says about them. The article hasn’t appeared online (though a giant SoundCloud map features the group — right side, bottom row), so I suppose I’ll have to wait a few days to smear the ink on a fresh copy.
Also, Lana Del Rey poster? Huh?
