“America’s favorite DJ” (according to BPM magazine) and acclaimed electronic music producer Paul van Dyk is touching down in the Valley this weekend, right on the heels of the release of his latest double mix CD, Politics of Dancing 2. Van Dyk, who grew up behind the Iron Curtain in East Germany, snagged a Grammy nomination for Best Electronic/Dance album last year, but he’s known for being outspoken as well. He was a vocal spokesperson for Rock the Vote last year (though he’s not a U.S. citizen), has loudly expressed opposition to the Iraq war (get in line), and he’s known for working to convince authorities that illegal drugs aren’t intrinsically linked to electronic music (hmmm . . . ). Van Dyk is slated to spin records at Myst in Scottsdale this Friday, September 23, where the party will run from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Tickets are $25 in advance. At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $17,250 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
