Maude Latour brought her signature pop style to Arizona Financial Theatre on Oct. 6 while opening for queer pop sensation FLETCHER on her In Search of the Antidote tour. Latour has been establishing herself in the pop scene since her EP “Starsick” in 2019. In 2022, her cover of “Kids in America” by Kim Wilde was featured in the hit Netflix original movie “Do Revenge.”
Latour took the stage in a bright all-white outfit, contrasting with her colorful rainbow gradient backdrop. The 24-year-old singer brought the crowd to life with her opening number “Cured Romantics,” off her first full-length album, “Sugar Water.” The upbeat-leaning album was released in mid-August and was the primary source for her 30-minute setlist. However, she made sure to include a few songs from her previously released EPs for her early fans.
Her uptempo songs, such as “Too Slow,” brought the crowd to their feet, warming up the audience and bringing the needed energy to the busy venue.
During her set, Latour talked about the importance of creating a safe space for queer and trans people before asking the crowd if there were any queer people in attendance, which was met with a loud affirmative cheer. She followed this with a performance of her song “Lola,” which celebrates women and all forms of relationships between women, tying together the theme of acceptance.
Latour closed her set with her hit 2020 single “One More Weekend.” Before leaving the stage, she teased a potential upcoming headlining tour, asking the crowd if they’d be in attendance the next time she visits Phoenix on a solo trip.
With the well-received release of her first full album, it's only a matter of time before Latour finds herself headlining venues such as Arizona Financial, but in the meantime, opening for FLETCHER is a step toward her likely stardom.
FLETCHER’s set began shortly after with her song “Maybe I Am,” much to the crowd’s excitement. With a karaoke-esque background displaying clips of lyrics, music videos and projections of the performance, the set was nothing short of eye-catching.
Like Latour’s set, FLETCHER primarily focused on songs from her latest album, “In Search of the Antidote,” which also lent its name to the title of the tour. However, hits like “Undrunk” made their appearance, and she closed the show with an encore featuring a fan favorite, “Becky’s So Hot.”
The Phoenix show was one of the last stops on FLETCHER’s tour, which began its European leg in April and picked up back in North America in September.
