Ozzy Osbourne, the legendary singer of Black Sabbath who massively facilitated heavy metal's evolution, died at age 76.

On Tuesday, Ozzy Osbourne's family issued a statement, per Kerri-Ann Roper of PA Entertainment, that read:

“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time."

The iconic, raucous musician, who will forever remain a part of any conversation about the metal genre, held a farewell Black Sabbath show a few weeks ago with acts like Guns N' Roses and Metallica on the bill. At the show, Osbourne sat on a throne to deliver his performance and issued heartfelt thank-you messages to the crowd.

Osbourne was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2003 and also underwent multiple spinal surgeries, causing him numerous mobility issues. At the show, Osbourne performed from a throne and issued heartfelt thank-you messages to the crowd.

His legacy includes Grammy wins, two inductions into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and, in addition to the many Black Sabbath releases, a solo career with more than ten records. Of course, his time on the MTV reality show "The Osbournes," where everyone from fans to the curious got an up-close look at the 'Prince of Darkness' at home with the family.

Here are some pictures from his Phoenix solo and Black Sabbath appearances, including a book signing at Changing Hands, along with a clip from his last show:
