March was filled with plenty of madness for Pickster One. The local turntablist whiz and moombahton specialist spent the month working different gigs around Austin during last month’s South by Southwest before jetting off to south Florida to perform for thousands at such parties as Hard Miami, during the annual Winter Music Conference. After spreading the moombahton sound in two different states, Pickster One hopes to reintroduce the bass-heavy genre to his hometown starting on Saturday, April 12, when he launches Piñata at Fillmore Creative, 1130 West Fillmore Street. Each edition of the moombahton monthly will take place at various Valley venues and will feature Pickster and DJ Melo working the mixers along with various specials guests, such as Mad Decent artist ETC! ETC! (who headlines this weekend’s kick off party). While you can hear moombahton around town at such nights as The Scenario at Bar Smith, Pickster aims to attract an entirely new audience. “People come out to The Scenario all the time, but there’s a whole bunch of people who aren’t familiar with moombahton and want to get into it,” he says. Doors open at 10 p.m. Admission is $5. See www.ticketfly.com.
