With the numerous lightsaber-wielding chicks adorning the promotional flier for female-focused rave She Wars, it’s likely a few nebbishy nerds or sci-fi freaks will show up at the Icehouse, 429 West Jackson Street, looking for their own personal Padmé. Unfortunately, the dozens of DJ dames from around the globe who’ll descend on downtown Phoenix on Saturday, June 23, won’t be donning an iron bikini (à la Princess Leia). Instead, they’ll be spinning genres from hardcore to electro to trance and beyond. This foxy force features headliners like British drum ‘n’ bass legend DJ Rap, Switzerland’s hardcore turntablist Miss Flower, Sin City’s Madame Filth, and Chicago’s Colette. The lineup of local she-jays includes Trax resident Diosa, the lovely Sonique Des Fleurs, Carmen Vega, and Cytheria, while a special “Chicks With Dicks” stage will see male rave regulars like Pac-D and Matthew Harris adopting femme-style monikers like Pac Delight and Mattilda Harris, respectively. Doors open at 9 p.m. and tickets cost $15-$20 in advance at London West Records in Tempe, or $25-$30 the night of the event. Call 602-400-4997.
