Show Announcements: Junior Brown, Limbeck, David Banner, Davey Jones, The Verve Pipe

By Martin Cizmar

A few show announcements fans of alt-country are going to like this week, led by Cottonwood’s Junior Brown and California’s Limbeck.

Brown, who also has ties to Oklahoma and Austin, plays throwback honky tonk on his custom-made guit-steel, a double-necked instrument that'll do the duty of a six-stringed guitar and a lapsteel. Brown invented the instrument in 1985 and has been playing shows steadily since, releasing nine albums along the way and playing the narrator in 2005’s Dukes of Hazzard movie, after the passing of local hero Waylon Jennings, who I paid a visit to last week.

Limbeck, an Old 97s-style country-tinged indie band, comes to Chyro Arts Venue in December. The band is known for their OC-centric songs and for appearing in an iMac commercial during the Clinton administration, long before appearing in Apple commercials was cool.

On the jump you'll find the rest of your show announcements as well as a hilarious video from loooong before Apple commercials are cool (You can even add… a mouse!”) and a similarly old school Junior Brown video for “My Wife Thinks Your Dead.”

Watch those fingers move!

The Apple IIc: Now with "mouse" capability.
