The Internet has blown up over the last hour with news that Slipknot bassist Paul Dedrick Gray has passed away.
The 38-year-old musician, better known by his nom de rock as "#2" or "The Pig" was reportedly found dead in a Des Moines-area hotel room earlier today. Gray was one of the founding member of the costume-clad death rock/nu-metal band, playing the bass even since the group was launched back in 1995.

Like the rest of the members of Slipknot, Gray donned a freakish disguise for each the band's gigs, which evoled over the years from a pig mask (hence his nickname) to a more Hannibal Lecter-style deal.
Per the Des Moines Register, which was one of the first to break the news of Gray's untimely passing, cops in the Iowa city of Urbandale aren't suspecting any foul play in the matter. An investigation is ongoing and an autopsy will be conducted sometime tomorrow.
UPDATE: No statement has been issued by the band as of this writing. Naturally, there's been plenty of reaction to Gray's death in the Twitterverse as news has spread. One particularly humorous Tweet I read stated the following: "I maybe am not a fan of Slipknot, but every rockstar has my respect. God, next time, take Justin Bieber."
