Downtown Phoenix seems to be a ginormous cluster-fuck of urban progress these days. Between the massive mess of light-rail construction and a few new skyscrapers going up, it's quite the challenge getting to the handful of off-the-chain events going on downtown. However, you'll wanna brave this urban death maze on Friday, December 8, for Spliff at Monroe's, 3 West Monroe Street. Every month, local DJs Aaron Roberts, Ryan Phillips, and Tyson Guess transform the underground establishment into "House Music's Joint," where they drop the hottest and hippest tracks from the genre along with guest turntablists (with names like DeMarkus Lewis and Justin Long featured in the past). Each event is based around a certain theme (such as "Spliff Wars" parodying Star Wars or "Spliff Hustlers" aping b-boy culture). This month it's "Wiggin' Out at Spliff," where attendees are encouraged to don wigs for the event, and a yet-to-be-named guest DJ will also be spinning. The needle drops at 9 p.m., and there's a $3 cover.
