Remember that Surfer Blood show at Trunk Space that got canceled? Yeah, well, that was the closest the band will come to playing here. Ever.

Yup, that’s a fact. How do we know? Umm, well, we just got a press release which says the band will never, ever play the Grand Canyon State again. No reason was given, however the announcement did say it has nothing to do with SB 1070 or heat or money or our scene in general. The band has just decided to never, ever play Phoenix for any reason whatsoever no matter what anyone says about anything. Sorry.

(Note: I thought the joke above was obvious from the tone. Apparently it wasn’t. There was no such press release. The band may or may not play here again sometime in the whenever. Sheesh. The point is this: You’re supposed to listen to the below track and get excited about the Brian Wilson show. Read on.)

Brian Wilson, on the other hand, will be at Scottsdale’s Talking Stick resort on May 29.

Will you step up to support New Times this year?

At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $17,250 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.

$30,000

So how about you make your day a little better by checking out Surfer Blood’s lo-fi cover of The Beach Boys classic “Don’t Worry Baby,” which is below. It’s a good idea, I promise.
