Tech N9ne and E-40 are two of the most successful independent artists in hip-hop, so it seems like a no-brainer for them to tour together. Tech N9ne founded his own label, Strange Music, in 1999 and has gone on to release 11 albums, which have sold more than 1 million copies combined. The Kansas City native has broad appeal, too. Not many artists have been invited to perform at both the Rock the Bells festival and Insane Clown Posse's Gathering of the Juggalos, and the only other one we can think of who has — Method Man — was drilled in the head by a beer can at the latter. E-40, meanwhile, has built a similar indie-rap empire in his Bay Area hometown of Vallejo. He has released 13 albums and sold more than 2.5 million units on his Sick Wid It label over the course of a nearly 25-year career. Like Tech N9ne, E-40 also has Dark Carnival connections, having performed on ICP cronies Twiztid's 2003 song "Speculationz." That's not to say that Faygo and face paint will be in abundance at this show, but the DIY spirit that ICP espouses most certainly will.
