Phoenix once again welcomes one of the 20 regional Technics/DMC World DJ Championship rounds, the first stop on the path to the world title for scratch fanatics. You already know the names of past world champions — Mixmaster Mike, Q-Bert, Swamp, Craze — but if you want to check out the latest contenders, you’ll want to be at the Old Brickhouse on Saturday, May 8, for this initial round of battles. Local turntablist band Morse Code and beat box machine MC Swindle host the event, which draws both local contenders and outta-towners vying for the chance to compete for the U.S. title later this year. The all-ages event runs from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., and advance tickets are $8, available at Zia Records, Swell, Wet Paint Art Supply, and Stinkweeds Records.
