Remember MySpace? It was this ugly website where kids went to reveal too much about themselves, sometimes in musical form, occasionally in a way that sprouted into a career. Harmony Tour co-headliners The Maine and Never Shout Never — the former Tempe-based, the latter the professional handle of 20-year-old Missouri native Christofer Drew Ingle — both got famous off the network before signing to Warner Brothers and selling a shitload of records. Say what you will, these kids are no label-made stooges: They had beautifully Bieber-esque hair and songs about sexting before some A&R man told them it'd sell. Their music is good but forgettable — catchy, effortlessly emotional pop-rock — but it's the message the kids presumably like. That's the part that may scare you. At first blush, songs like NSN's "Cheatercheaterbestfriendeater" (yes, that's a real title), the story of some bimbo fucking Ingle's best friend, seem scandalously explicit to us old folks. But, hey, that's how kids are now! Then again, maybe Ingle himself occasionally gets caught off guard. Take the (moralizing?) lyrics to his song "Fifteen." "Just the other day she was a little/ Taking over the world/ With her smile/ But just the other day I saw that little girl/ Taking a tongue down her throat/ By a boy that didn't give a damn that she was only 15 /Cause she was more than willing/ To take a chance to find romance and grow up fast."
