Some vidcasts you just have to make a leap of faith that everything will work out all right. Like when singer songwriter Lonna Kelly tells you she's just formed a girl group called Make My Baby, you book them on the show and ask questions later which is what we did.
Lonna writes great songs on her own, she's toured with Howe Gelb of Giant Sand, and the last time I emailed her, she said she was playing some Music Festival in Switzerland. And they're performing at the Crescent with my other girl group favorite Snow Songs on November 2, so it's gotta be a smash, right? That's a hypothetical question, you really don't have to respond but I appreciate your enthusiasm.
So in turn, Make My Baby took a leap of faith by allowing us to film in the home of Make My Baby members Tabby and Jay Hufman. In this kid friendly environment, I brought along my 6-year-old son, SERENE DOMINIC JR.™ to film on the KID CAM™ for the first time to fairly chaotic results. Like a devoted son, he mostly just filmed me a lot (and Ann Seletos, who I think he secretly has a crush on), drank a lot of juice boxes and mostly watched the Cartoon Network. And you get to see the easily embarrassed Lonna get easily embarrassed.
We also debut a new segment on the show called "GET OFF MY DIGITAL CLOUD!™" in which the musicians turned critic and voted a vinyl record off my digital cloud. Will Lonna, Tabby, Ann and silent Jay pick Olivia Newton-John, Neil Diamond, Rick Springfield, Anthony Newley or Peter Frampton? Stay glued to your seats as Make My Baby makes your day!
When they perform their "On the Radio" in part 2 of this SPECIAL DIRECT TO YOU VIDCAST™, you're hearing them the first time I heard them and I think you'll be pleasantly bowled over, although I'm not exactly sure I know what that would feel like. One friend overheard the song and said it sounded like 'The Vivian Girls if they knuckled down with a Fleet Foxes album and learned how to sing.'" Wow, that's way harsh, especially since The Vivian Girls have been gracious guests on the show.
That friend...is a friend no more!
But yeah, it kinda is like that. Better, in fact.
