Tumblr of the Week: YVYNYL

Not that we're opposed to reading, but once in a while we want a straightforward summary of why an album is worth a listen. We're also interested in playlists with obscure artists we've never heard of. Plus, we appreciate some cool vinyl cover art when we see it.

We do our one-stop shopping for all of those things at YVYNYL.

More on what's awesome about this week's Tumblr of the Week after the jump...

Jeans Wilder, with one of the best album covers...ever?
The blog features an MTV Behind The Music section of sorts in which people write letters to YVYNYL explaining their music-making and listening process (these letters can be funny, or deeply moving).

There's also a wealth of music videos with some sick visuals and artistic pizzazz. In addition, they've got bands with cool names and even cooler album artwork (take Jeans Wilder, for example).

YVYNYL serves as an outlet for unknown artists to debut their music. There's even some shitty dubstep song that's an "ode to the 1995 Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon, an American classic." Now I've heard everything.

On top of all of that, YVYNYL has well-selected mixtapes that you can download for free.

Support the independent voice of Phoenix and help keep the future of New Times free.

Keep Phoenix New Times Free... Since we started Phoenix New Times, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Phoenix, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Phoenix with no paywalls.
