Although temperatures might be cooling down with the onset of fall here in the PHX, San Francisco’s DJ Jacaranda and the flame-flinging freaks of local fire performance troupe S_T_3 are gonna be heating up your Thursday nights over at Ichiban Japanese Restaurant, 1435 East University Drive in Tempe. At their new weekly event Underground Thursdays, Jacaranda spins up numerous genres — including tribal, trip-hop, dub, glitch breaks, funk, and hip-hop — while S_T_3 lights up the night with some spinning of their own, namely a five-alarm blaze of fire-dancing antics featuring plenty of poise and poi’s alike. Drink specials are also offered throughout the evening at Ichiban’s outdoor tiki bar, but make sure you keep your vodka and cranberry away from the flame-wielding performers, unless you wanna be doing some fire dancing yourself. Go underground starting at 10 p.m. with a $5 cover.
