Want to know what new release discs and platters are moving across the Valley at local record stores? We’ve got you covered with another installment of What’s Selling.

Contrary to popular belief, CD’s and vinyl are moving off of music store shelves just fine. According to a report in the Washington Post just last week, 2011 marked the first rise in U.S. album sales since 2004.

Tempe’s neighborhood music store, Hoodlums, can vouch for that having enjoyed a pretty good year themselves.

The store’s blog has compiled a couple of pretty cool year-in-review lists including 2011’s top vinyl releases. If you haven’t already, now is a good time to take inventory of your own milk crates and see if you’re missing any of these titles. Follow the jump for this snap, pop, hiss edition of What’s Selling.

Will you step up to support New Times this year?

At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $15,500 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
