There's no getting around it. No matter how awesome DJ Star Slinger may have been before getting shouted out by Donald Glover, AKA Childish Gambino, AKA Troy on one of TV's best shows, Community, he was immeasurably cooler afterward.

The cred boost wasn't entirely necessary. Slinger, known as Darren Williams to his friends and family in the UK, has quickly established himself as prodigious mixer, bringing his retro soul shine to indie jams from Washed Out and Broken Social Scene, and hip-hop like Glover's Childish Gambino, Drake, Tyler, the Creator and more.

He's bringing his live show to the Rhythm Room on Sunday, October 9. We have a pair of passes to give away courtesy of Green Label Sound, who just released Star Slinger's first official single, "Dumbin' (ft. Reggie B)."

You can enter to win two tickets simply by following the directions after the break.

1. "Like" us on Facebook, which you can do right here: (Already like us on Facebook? Just skip to step number two.)

2. Leave a comment below with your favorite DJ Starslinger remix (I like his take on Deerhunter's "Helicopter," personally. Be sure to use a working email address when you comment, as this is how we will contact our winners. Your email address will not be displayed and we will not use it for any other purpose.)

Only those who complete both steps are eligible to win the pair of tickets. We will draw a winner at 9 p.m. on Friday, October 7, and the winner will be notified that day with the event details.

Keep Phoenix New Times Free... Since we started Phoenix New Times, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Phoenix, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism.
