President Obama and Mitt Romney are "dead even" in Arizona, according to a poll of the state's voters released this week.

The thought of Obama winning Arizona -- which the president's campaign contends is possibly -- seems to come and go each week, depending on how poll results turn out, but this one appears to give Obama a shot.

The voting habits of Arizonans in past years haven't exactly hinted at the desert people warming up to Democrats -- seven of the 10 members of Arizona's congressional delegation are Republicans. Republicans own the state House, the state Senate, and almost all of the state's executive branch positions.

Senator John McCain won Arizona easily during his presidential bid, although he's from here, of course.

This specific poll -- which actually shows Obama up two percentage points, which is within the margin of error -- also used somewhat of a small sample size of 500 people.

However, the company that did the poll finds its results -- which also showed Richard Carmona with a lead over Congressman Jeff Flake in the Senate race -- legitimate.

"Thus it must be concluded that Arizona is definitely a battleground state for both the Presidential and the U.S. Senate races and there can be little doubt but that the outcome will be largely dependent on which political party does the best job in turning out its voters and whether the Democrats can hang on to the Latino vote," the pollsters' release says.

The poll shows Obama with 42 percent, and Romney with 40 percent. Arizona Latinos favor Obama over Romney by 77 to 10 percent, and Obama's purportedly up 46-39 in Maricopa County.
