ESPN's reporting the Indianapolis Colts are letting go of quarterback Peyton Manning, which means Arizona Cardinals fans can start going rabid over the thought of him signing with the Red Birds.
The Cardinals are on the short list of teams Manning would likely sign with, according to professional guesses from sports commentators (and Forbes, apparently).
At least one fan is so serious about the Cardinals acquiring a quarterback who can consistently throw to players on his own team that a billboard begging Manning to come to Arizona just popped up this week -- even though Miami Dolphins fans beat them to the punch with that idea.
There's even a website and petition dedicated to the idea of having Manning join the Cardinals.
When considering the quarterbacks who've started games for the Cardinals since Kurt Warner retired -- Matt Leinart, Derek Anderson, John Skelton, Max Hall, and Kevin Kolb -- we can't say we blame the Cards fans who want Manning in the Valley.
Until Manning decides which offer he likes best, expect to see a lot of "sources" and "rumors" talking about where he's headed.
And let the Manning hysteria begin (or continue).
