An organization called Dogs 24/7 will be hosting a “speed-dating” event this weekend that hopes to match humans with the Valley’s most eligible dogs.

Get your minds out of the gutter — although the group describes the eligible dogs as “bachelors” and “bachelorettes,” this isn’t a bestiality convention, it’s an event to try to match up shelter dogs with loving families.

Here’s how it works: 30 participants get to spend three minutes with each of the canine candidates. If you find a dog you like, you can spend more time with the animal and possibly adopt a new four-legged friend.

The event is scheduled Saturday at the Gilbert Dogs 24/7 lobby at 2285 E. Baseline Road. The first round of “dates” kicks off at 3 p.m., but the event starts at 2 p.m., so get there early.
