The God-loving Republicans of Fountain Hills are keeping the “Trump” in Christmas. Er, wait a minute.

Recently, members of the Fountain Hills Republican Club put up a Christmas tree laden with Trump flags in the city’s community center. When asked by some residents to take it down, the city refused and called the tree “protected speech.” In response, the Fountain Hills Democratic Club decided to engage in some protected speech of its own.

On Dec. 12, the Dem club put up a wreath with a Donald Trump mask at its center. On it, the club wrote words and phrases like “obstruction of justice,” “defamation,” “sexual assault” and “conspiracy to steal the 2020 election,” as well as a few infamous Trump quotes like the “grab ‘em by the pussy.”

Just like when a piece of naked Trump artwork popped up in Phoenix, people immediately lost their minds.

Right-wing media outlet the Arizona Daily Independent reported that the wreath utilized not a rubber mask but instead a “severed head.” Arizona Republic columnist Laurie Roberts, in her own holier-than-thou, pearl-clutching think piece, went along with the Independent sensationalism and also called the mask a severed head. Her stale lecture to Democrats noted that the wreath was “not an effective way to rebuild support” after devastating losses in the 2024 election.

State Sen. John Kavanagh told Roberts that "the club members responsible for this outrageous act have moved beyond Trump derangement syndrome to Trump-induced psychosis,” revealing both the lawmaker's penchant for being super dramatic and a misunderstanding of psychosis.
The Fountain Hills Democratic Club shared pictures of the wreath on Facebook but updated the post to reflect that they had taken it down not long after.

“We have removed the offensive mask out of respect for all Democrats,” the group’s account commented on the original post. “A statement was made, if only for a few hours.”

At least some of the people who follow the club on Facebook managed to laugh.

“Fountain Hills Democratic Club, you can't speak for ALL Democrats!” one person wrote. “Personally, I'm one Dem who loved it.”

Another very reasonably noted it was actually not that serious.

“Actually, i see this as rather funny,” she wrote. “Satire is good for all of us and my response is to just lighten up on both sides.”

Others took issue with a holiday war being raged over Trump. “Just because they are both protected by the First Amendment, doesn't make either of them good choices,” one person wrote. Another said, “Those pointing fingers at the wreath, need to also point fingers at the tree.”

Neither the Democratic Club nor the Republican Club could be reached for comment.
