Some of the cool kids might not like us for spreading the word, but the city of Phoenix will clean it up when someone graffitis your property — for free.
For 11 years, Phoenix has made February its “Graffiti-Free Awareness Month.” (The overlap with Black History Month is, hopefully, coincidental.) According to a press release, the city spends this month trying to “raise awareness about the negative effects of graffiti.”
In the city’s release, Mayor Kate Gallego said the Phoenix is “committed to creating a safe, clean and beautiful environment for residents” and urged residents “to get involved in reporting or removing graffiti in your neighborhoods.”
The city isn’t out to wipe away murals that have come to define Phoenix’s urban landscape, said public information officer Adam Waltz. Graffiti is removed only at the request of a property owner.
“So, if you’re a resident or business and would like graffiti removed, you can contact the City and we’ll help out!” Waltz said.
In 2024, the Neighborhood Services Department’s “Graffiti Busters” program used more than 9,900 gallons of paint and painted over more than 48,500 graffiti sites across Phoenix, the city said. That’s about 240 graffiti calls per day.
“Removing graffiti quickly is the key to discouraging repeat offenses,” said the department’s director, Spencer Self. The department also can provide color-matched paint and supplies if you want to remove it yourself.
If some asshole spraypainted your things, you can call 602-534-4444, email [email protected] or go online to the city’s myPHX311 webpage.
