As was rumored, Governor Jan Brewer was indeed on a trip to Afghanistan during her unnancounced absence from the state.

We haven't been able to discern an actual purpose of this trip, although the going explanation from Brewer's office seems to be "to visit with Arizona National Guard service members."

The Department of Defense apparently set this up for the governor, and as you can see from this interview with the Arizona Republic, it didn't quite seem like a business trip.

Either way, does this seem like a good reason for the governor to pack up and leave the state (without explanation) for a week?
