There’s something about a person smiling ear-to-ear in their mugshot that really irks us here at New Times — take the creepy mugshot of Tucson shooting suspect Jared Loughner, for example. Regardless of whether the accused is guilty, an overly chipper mugshot suggests they’re not taking the charges against them seriously, which is even more obnoxious when the charges allege the person had sex with a 13-year-old child.
Enter Rachel Brock, daughter of Maricopa County Supervisor Fulton Brock — who despite facing the possibility of a presumptive sentence of 20 years in prison (if she’s convicted of any of the five counts of sexual abuse of a minor that have been filed against her), humiliating her high-profile family, and allegedly having sex with a 13-year-old child — finds it appropriate to smile like an idiot every time police take her picture.
See our story on the matter here.
We can’t imagine Brock actually finds her current situation funny, but in the court of public opinion, sporting a smile when you’ve been accused of some pretty pervy crimes is never going to score you any points.
