Proposition 203 is failing to live up to expectations of a landslide victory as very early ballots come in, with the medical-marijuana measure trailing 52 percent to 48 percent.
These are the results of about 430,000 early ballots in Maricopa County.
The early votes show Democratic Congressman Harry Mitchell trailing Republican David Schweikert by a hefty 10 points — 53 percent to 43 percent.

No unpleasant surprises for Governor Jan Brewer: She’s blowing Terry Goddard away in the early returns, 56 percent to 41 percent.
Messing with the Mexicans seems to have helped her out.
Republican John McCain’s also is handily beating his Democratic contender Rodney Glassman. Well, beating’s an understatment — it’s 61 percent to 33 percent. Not a great showing for Glassman, despite the use of his daddy’s substantial money for the campaign.
A close race that doesn’t bode well for Democrats currently is the Congressional District 7 contest in southern Arizona: incumbent Democrat Raul Grijalva versus young rocket scientist, Republican Ruth McClung.
Early votes put Grijalva ahead 49 percent to McClung’s 45 percent.
A silver lining for the Dems (again, based on these initial numbers) is the state Attorney General’s race between Republican Tom Horne and Democrat Felecia Rotellini — that one’s neck and neck.
