Since Donald Trump returned to the White House — where he has implemented harsh immigration policies, tried to illegally halt federal funding and announced tariffs on Canada and Mexico — protests have broken out throughout the country.

Recently, protests took over the 101 freeway in Los Angeles and popped up in Oklahoma, Houston and North Carolina. In the Valley, protesters in Glendale even allegedly took a police car Sunday night.

More protests are to come. On Reddit, to organize against Trump’s Project 2025 agenda, organizers are planning a protest dubbed “50501” — 50 protests in one day, each at a state capitol, on Feb. 5.

The protest brought hundreds of frustrated Arizonans to the capitol on Wednesday, as similar rallies popped off across the country. Here’s what went down:

When is it?

In Phoenix, the protest will take place at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5.

Where is it?

The protest is at the Arizona State Capitol in downtown Phoenix. The address is 1700 W. Washington St., Phoenix, AZ 85007.

How can I get involved?

You can get involved through the protests Reddit channel r/50501. They also have an Instagram page, @50501movement.

Who is organizing it?

The organizing is being done by the Reddit channel. Otherwise, local Reddit users are spreading the word through social media. No official organizing is being done.

What should I know before I go?

On the Arizona State Capitol grounds, protesting and other organizing activities must be conducted between 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Here are the other State Capitol regulations:
  • Protesters must also keep 10 feet away from all buildings and minimize damage to state property.
  • To amplify sound, an event application must be submitted 10 days prior, otherwise “volume must be reduced to a reasonable level.” An event application is not required if no sound will be amplified.
  • Equipment, including banners and signs, may not be staked into the ground or otherwise affixed to landscapes, sidewalks or buildings.
Protesters are also encouraged to bring their own signs, banners, posters and flags.

Are there any others happening?

Unable to make Wednesday’s protest but interested in protesting? On Monday at 6 p.m., there is a protest in Chandler against mass deportations. It will occur at S. Arizona Avenue and Pecos Road. Bringing flags and posters is encouraged.
