Spurred by Reddit, protests occurred throughout the country on Feb. 5 to demonstrate against the Trump administration’s policies and Project 2025. The movement was dubbed 50501, a nod to the effort to organize 50 protests in 50 states on the same day.

In Arizona, hundreds gathered in front of the Capitol to communicate their anger and displeasure about the Trump administration’s actions — its immigration crackdowns, shuttering of federal agencies and the unleashing of billionaire Elon Musk to disrupt the flow of federal funding.

Now, the 50501 movement is at it again, planning another Capitol protest on Feb. 17, which is Presidents’ Day. Or, as the protest is calling it, “No Kings on Presidents’ Day.”

Here’s what you should know.

When is it?

In Phoenix, the protest will take place at 12 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 17. Similar protests are planned at different times across the country.

Where is it?

The protest is at the Arizona Capitol in downtown Phoenix. The address is 1700 W. Washington St., Phoenix, AZ 85007.

How can I get involved?

You can get involved through the Reddit channel r/50501. The Arizona protest also has a new Instagram account that is sharing information about Monday’s protest under the handle @az50501.

Who is organizing it?

Like the 50501 protest earlier this month, it’s being organized on social media and through Reddit. The Progressive Council of the Arizona Democratic Party, the Progressive Democrats of America and the nonprofit For All are also supporting the protest.

What should I know before I go?

On the Capitol grounds, protesting and other organizing activities must be conducted between 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Here are other Capitol regulations:
  • Protesters must also keep 10 feet away from all buildings and minimize damage to state property.
  • To amplify sound, an event application must be submitted 10 days prior, otherwise “volume must be reduced to a reasonable level.” An event application is not required if no sound will be amplified.
  • Equipment, including banners and signs, may not be staked into the ground or otherwise affixed to landscapes, sidewalks or buildings.
Protesters are also encouraged to bring their own signs, banners, posters and flags.

How can I get there?

There is public parking at the Capitol on both the House and Senate sides on 17th Avenue between Adams and Jefferson streets. Additional parking is available at the Capitol parking lot on 19th Avenue and Jefferson Street.

If you are looking to take public transportation, you can take the Valley Metro Lightrail, get off at 12th and Washington streets and then take the free Downtown DASH bus at Washington Street and 5th Avenue.

You can also take a Valley Metro bus, which stops near the Capitol, including at Van Buren Street and 17th Avenue.

Are there any other protests happening?

Protests have been abundant in Arizona since President Donald Trump took office. On Monday, protesters gathered in front of the Capitol to protest against Senate President Warren Peterson’s Arizona ICE Act. They’ve vowed to continue protesting every Monday until that bill is dead.

The Phoenix branch of the Party for Socialism and Liberation has also been hosting many protests across the Valley.
