It’s summer already? It will soon feel like it.

As early as Tuesday, Phoenix could see temperatures in the 90s for the first time in 2025. Ninety-degree temps are expected to last through Thursday.

That weather — which will come with dry conditions, occasional afternoon breezes and a mix of the sun and clouds — is roughly 15 degrees hotter than normal for this time of year. The Valley of the Sun doesn’t normally get this warm until late April to early May, said National Weather Service meteorologist Ted Whittock.

“This is unusual,” Whittock said. “But these temperatures are not unheard of in late February.”

The hottest February temperature ever recorded in Phoenix was 92 degrees — back in 1921. Daily temperature records for February generally hover around the upper 80s to low 90s.

The hot temps aren’t here to stay, at least not yet. By late next week and into the weekend, a weak low-pressure system is expected to “start to meander over the region,” Whittock said, which “might help bring our temperature back down a bit like last week.” However, due to the strength of the system — or lack thereof — it’s not certain how significant that cool-down will be.

If you’re sweating the heat, though, consider trading places with any friends or family outside the state. Much of the rest of the country is freezing.
