“Mentally and physically, I’m just full,” Taurasi told the publication. “That’s probably the best way I can describe it. I’m full and I’m happy.”
Taurasi arguably belongs on the Mt. Rushmore of Arizona sports and is an even bigger figure in women's basketball. She spent all 20 years of her career with the Mercury, which she helped lead to three WNBA titles. She retires as the league's all-time leading scorer, having made 14 All-WNBA teams and won six Olympic gold medals. Many consider her the WNBA's GOAT — the greatest of all time.
Taurasi's retirement officially ends an era of Mercury basketball. She and Brittney Griner were bankable stars and now have both moved on. Earlier this offseason, star center Brittney Griner, who returned to the team after spending more than a year in a Russian prison on trumped-up charges, signed a free-agent deal with the Atlanta Dream.
Here are some notable reactions to Taurasi's retirement. This story will be updated as more reactions come in.
