I'm on deadline for my column this week, but I wanted to share this news, fresh from the Arizona Supreme Court.

The Supremes just issued the following order, affirming Superior Court Judge Hugh Hegyi's decision to dismiss a lawsuit challenging the petitions that have forced a recall of state Senate President Russell Pearce:

"The Court has reviewed all the briefs filed in this matter and considered the case at conference. Based on the arguments of the parties and, because of the need for a prompt ruling affecting an upcoming election,

"IT IS HEREBY ORDERED that the trial court's judgment, as embodied in its signed minute entry order dated August 12, 2011, is affirmed. The Court's opinion will follow in due course."

So the recall election will occur as planned. Tom Ryan, attorney for the recall committee Citizens for a Better Arizona, issued a one quote statement in response.

"Judge Hegyi is brilliant!"

Although I never doubted the outcome, I concur.
