We happened by the Old Courthouse on West Washington Street early this afternoon to pick up some documents, and were greeted at the front steps by a horde of black-robed Maricopa County Superior Court judges having a group photo taken.
What a crew!

Couldn’t get into the building for security reasons for more than a half-hour, so we stood around and had a chance to schmooze with a several of the jurists.
Everyone wanted to chat about the sudden and shocking death on Monday of Mike Ryan, the retired Arizona Supreme Court justice.
He was beloved by many and respected by all.
We published a blog item on Judge Ryan’s passing immediately after learning of it early Monday evening.
Many folks have asked us if we could share any details about Mike’s (we got to call him `Mike’) funeral.
Here’s what we know:
A funeral mass is for this Friday, Feb. 3, starting at 3 p.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church, at 4715 North Central Avenue in Phoenix (adjacent to Brophy Prep)
Visitation will begin one hour before the service.
We are told that Judge Ryan, a veteran of the Vietnam War, will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery,
