A 51-year-old inmate at Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s Tent City jail died last week, the Sheriff’s Office announced.
The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office did not respond to New Times’ request for more information outside of a statement provided to the media.
The Sheriff’s Office says Oscar Polanco’s death is the result of natural causes, although he will undergo an autopsy.
Polanco was in the jail due to a DUI case, and was on a work release schedule, so he was allowed to leave during the day. However, MCSO says Polanco was found dead in his bed when he didn’t report for release on Wednesday.
