Arizona has a lot of transplants — only a couple of states have higher percentages of their population from another state.
Can you guess which ones? Below, we have the top 10 states where Arizona residents were born, as of 2012:
10.) Oklahoma: Less Than 1 Percent
Bonus fact: Oklahoma edged out Arkansas for this spot.

9.) Utah: Less Than 1 Percent
From one state with a lot of red rocks to another.
8.) Missouri: Less Than 1 Percent
A lot of other midwestern states narrowly missed this list.
7.) New Mexico: Less Than 1 Percent
Nevada is Arizona’s only neighbor that doesn’t crack the top 10.
6.) Ohio: 2 Percent
Holy Toledo!
5.) Texas: 2 Percent
Texas actually passed Ohio on this list in the 1990s.
4.) New York: 3 Percent
Meanwhile, 5 percent of Arizonans were born in another state in the northeast.
3.) Illinois: 4 Percent
Hence the reason people say Phoenix is Chicago west.
2.) California: 9 Percent
Arizona: Like California, but subtract taxes and oceans and add heat.
1.) Arizona: 38 Percent
Yes, believe it or not, more than one-third of Arizonans actually were born here.
