The penultimate race in this year’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season was held Sunday at Phoenix International Raceway, where Kevin Harvick took the checkered flag.
New Times was there to get the fans’ reactions on the important issues, like how to have a proper tailgate party, and who was in the wrong in the previous week’s fight between drivers Brad Keselowski and Jeff Gordon.
The previous week at Texas Motor Speedway, Gordon had the lead with just a few laps to go when Keselowski went for a pass on Gordon, and succeeded, but the cars made contact, which caused Gordon to wreck and drop back to finish 29th.
Will you step up to support New Times this year?
At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $15,500 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
The two drivers and their crews fought in the pit lane — a fight Kevin Harvick also got in on — and although Gordon finished second in Sunday’s race in Phoenix, he and Keselowski were both eliminated from championship contention.
NASCAR loyalties run pretty deep, so as you can see from our video at the top of this post, not everyone felt too bad for Gordon, but there was some consensus that Keselowski’s the bad guy.
Harvick, Ryan Newman, Joey Logano, and Denny Hamlin are still in the hunt for the championship in the upcoming race in Miami.
