Marijuana products from a pair of dispensaries that operate in the Valley have been voluntarily recalled due to a possible contamination of Aspergillus, a fungus that can cause allergic reactions or infection. The Arizona Department of Health Services, which licenses and regulates dispensaries in the state, announced the recall Tuesday afternoon.
The recall concerns two batches of flower from JARS and from Nature’s Wonder — the Super Yuzu strain at JARS (batch number K-2025-19-Z1-SYUZ) and the Trap Queen strain at Nature’s Wonder (batch number 0701R30TQ) . DHS said that no illnesses have been reported and that the recall was issued “out of an abundance of caution.”
The state health department said the dispensaries have pulled the products from the shelves and that customers who purchased those strains should dispose of them. Aspergillus can affect people who are already sick, causing symptoms that “range from asthma or cold-like symptoms to fever and chest pain, among many others,” DHS said.
Both strains of flower initially passed tests and were cleared for sale. “However,” DHS said, “the Department has received additional information that indicates some units from these batches may have been contaminated.” Phoenix New Times sent questions to DHS about that “additional information” but has not heard back.
A customer service representative with JARS didn’t have specific information about the recalled product but said that customers can always return recalled products for a refund and that the company complies with DHS recalls by removing products from the shelves.
In a statement provided to New Times, Nature’s Wonder spokesperson Kim Prince said, “Nature’s Wonder worked closely with the Arizona Department of Health Services and provided testing results showing the product met all required standards at the time of sale; the product was grown and sold more than six months ago with no inventory remaining for retesting. Nature’s Wonder takes product quality and consumer safety seriously and remains committed to working with the Department on product safety matters.”
