Last year we marked the hundred day countdown to Best of Phoenix by sharing some of our favorite food folks' "Personal Best" lists. This year we're bringing back our list of 100 Favorite Dishes. 36. Basil Lime Sorbet from Sweet Republic

A cold scoop of ice cream is just about the only suitable consolation prize for enduring an Arizona summer so it makes sense that one of the nation's best ice cream shops would be located here in the Valley. And we're not the only ones that think Sweet Republic is great. Over the years the shop's one-of-a-kind ice cream flavors have landed it on the pages of national publications including Time, Sunset, and Food & Wine.
Owners Jan Wichayanuparp and Helen Yung first opened Sweet Republic in 2008 and almost immediately won Valley diners over with unexpected flavors like Honey Blue Cheese and Sichuan Orange Chocolate. These days the duo also operates a Sweet Republic location in Phoenix and at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport.
Of all the Sweet Republic creations old and new, our favorite is still the Basil Lime sorbet. It's a simple but refreshing combination of fresh lime juice and pieces of basil that makes a perfect after-dinner treat for the summertime. We love the lightness of this dessert -- and that fact that it doesn't make us feel quite as guilty as other frozen treats. The simplicity of the dessert really lets the high quality ingredients shine.
