Chef and restaurateur Bernie Kantak is diving into a new genre with his latest restaurant and bar.

Kantak, known for comforting, New American cuisine and his beloved riff on a chopped salad, plans to launch Minnow – a fast-casual matcha and coffee bar by day and sushi and cocktail spot at night – in Phoenix’s Arcadia neighborhood.

Minnow is anticipated to open early this year, according to an announcement teasing the new restaurant. It will be located at 32nd Street and Campbell Avenue in the building that previously was home to coffee shops Seedhouse and Provision over the past seven years.

"Minnow is designed to be the go-to spot for Phoenix to grab, go or gather — no matter the time of day,” the announcement says. “With a focus on creating meaningful connections through bold food and drink, Minnow brings together dynamic talent from the local hospitality scene to deliver a community concept that is both approachable and innovative.”

Minnow will replace the 14-month-old Seedhouse, which announced its closure on Dec. 13. That month, Seedhouse also teased the forthcoming eatery on its social media.

“Rumor has it, In Good Spirits has an exciting new concept in store for the neighborhood. Stay tuned!" an Instagram story from Dec. 16 read.

Since then, posters have been papered over the floor-to-ceiling windows of the building's entrance, with some proclaiming, "Small bites big vibes."

Minnow will be the fourth restaurant from Kantak’s hospitality group, In Good Spirits, joining Scottsldale’s Citizen Public House and Beginner’s Luck and Phoenix’s The Gladly.
