Peaches, Plums Recalled from Trader Joe's, Walmart, and More

You might want to check the packaging on your produce this week because a nationwide fruit recall is in effect on bulk and packaged fruits from the fruit wholesaler Wawona Packing Co. Recalled fruits include peaches, plums, nectarines, and pluots that may have been contaminated with listeria.

Since Wawona sells to many wholesalers and retailers under different brands, the voluntary recall includes fruit labeled as Wawona, Sweet 2 Eat, or Harvest Sweet. Fruits from those labels packaged between June 1 and July 12 are subject to the recall.

Wawona supplies to Costco, Walmart, Kroger, and Trader Joe's, according to Reuters. Although no known cases of illness from the recalled fruit have currently been reported, the company warned in a statement that listeria "can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems."

It's also kind of a bummer to note that Walmart and Trader Joe's are getting fruit from the same wholesaler in the first place, but that's beside the point. To see a full list of recalled fruit SKUs, visit the Wawona Packing website.
