The local fast-casual chain Gadzooks Enchiladas & Soup announced the closure of two of its five Valley locations on Monday. The restaurants in Chandler and Tempe have fed their last customers.
“We loved our time in both of these spaces, serving residents and visitors alike in these vibrant East Valley cities,” an announcement posted to the restaurant’s social media said.
Gadzooks’ locations in Arcadia, central Phoenix and Gilbert remain open. The eatery also has an outpost at Chase Field downtown.
“Moving forward we remain committed to going all-in on what we do best,” the post said. “Offering our guests from-scratch tacos, enchiladas, soups and salads while consistently serving an exceptional product at a great price.”
Gadzooks is co-owned by brothers Aaron and Jared Pool. For their restaurant, the brothers drew inspiration from their mother, Linda, serving her tortilla soup and pumpkin cookies. The chain's first location opened on Seventh Street and Osborn Road in 2013. The restaurants, which opened across the Valley over the following 12 years, also serve customizable tacos, enchiladas and nachos.
The Pool brothers are also behind The Green Woodpecker, a taco joint, beer bar and flower shop in midtown’s Park Central. An anticipated brick-and-mortar location of Poolboy Taco at Park Central has been forthcoming, but an opening date has not been set. The brothers launched a downtown bar and restaurant, Hugo’s Cantina, just off Roosevelt Row in January 2024. That spot quietly closed in December.
As two Valley Gadzooks locations said goodbye, the post on social media shared appreciation and encouraged customers to visit the other three locations.
“We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the fans who have supported these locations over the years and look forward to seeing you at our other locations,” the post read.
