With Cinco de Mayo falling on Monday this year, Valley restaurants are gearing up for a whole weekend of festivities.

While often mistaken for Mexico’s Independence Day, Cinco de Mayo marks the Mexican army’s victory over France at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. In the U.S., it’s become a spirited celebration of Mexican culture, cuisine and community — especially at local restaurants.

Whether you're craving tacos, tequila or a full-on fiesta, here's a roundup of Cinco de Mayo specials happening across the greater Phoenix area.

Barrio Queen

Multiple locations
A chain founded in Arizona, Barrio Queen spans the Valley, bringing the Cinco de Mayo celebrations to you. Customers can expect giveaways, samples and live Catrina performers all weekend long, along with $5 Barrio margaritas, $6 frozen margs and $4 Coronas. On May 5 only, stop by for half off all margaritas and appetizers, along with a live DJ from 5 to 9 p.m.

Blanco Cocina + Cantina

Multiple locations
Blanco Cocina + Cantina is bringing the holiday spirit with a live mariachi band at each location from 5 to 8 p.m. on Cinco de Mayo. Plus, thanks to 1800 and Dos Equis sponsoring the events, each pour will be upgraded to 1800 throughout the weekend. Drink specials include a smashed watermelon margarita ($14) with 1800 Blanco, watermelon chelada ($6) with Dos Equis Lager and a Mexican Candy Shot ($10) with 1800 Blanco, melon sour, Cholula and salt.

An Old Town Scottsdale favorite, Diego Pops will bring the fiesta by expanding their dining space all weekend. Plus, through May 5, try the $20 taco special — five tacos (no mix and match) loaded with your choice of steak or chicken, topped with pico de gallo, lettuce and cheese.

LoveCraft

3128 E. Cactus Road
LoveCraft is a New Mexican-inspired kitchen that marries spicy Hatch chiles with Texas-style smoked meats, resulting in a unique, modern cuisine. The taco and bottle shop has more than 130 beers on tap, and while they’re closed on Mondays, they’ll be offering $5 house margaritas all day on Sunday, May 4, instead — best enjoyed on the rooftop bar, overlooking Cactus Road.

Why wait for the weekend, when you can start celebrating on Thursday? During the self-dubbed ‘Cinco de Macayo’ celebration, the Valley staple will serve their traditional Mexican food alongside discounted drinks including $4 Dos Equis Lager bottles, $6 Corazon Blanco shots, an $8 beer and shot special and $8 Cinco Margarita with Corazon Blanco. Plus, try the $10 Macayo's Chimi holiday exclusive, which includes a choice of shredded beef or shredded chicken, and discounted sides such as guacamole, calabacitas, beans and rice.

Maguey Taco Bar

Maguey Taco Bar opened its doors in May 2024, and is led by Mexico City chef Jose Rodriguez. All day on Monday, patrons can score $8 margaritas, $5 beers and a special 10-count taco platter with fresh guacamole.

Rosita’s Place

2310 E. McDowell Road
Rosita’s Place is highlighting birria in several special menu items this holiday weekend, on Saturday and Sunday only. Try the birria taco plate for $13, or the birria nachos or birria quesadilla, for $14 each. Pair your dish with $1 off all beers or a house margarita pitcher for $22.

Founded in 1979 and still family-owned, Serranos Mexican Restaurants will be celebrating Friday and Saturday with in-house specials. Try their Mexican Flag Enchiladas which include your choice of chicken or beef, smothered in green chile, creamy queso fundido and bold red chile sauce, all for $9.99. Wash it down with a $7 margarita or a 16-ounce draft beer for just $5.

Sol Mexican Cocina

15323 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale
Nestled in the northeast corner of Scottsdale Quarter is Sol Mexican Cocina, a coastal Mexican kitchen highlighting the flavors of Baja, and boasting 17 daily house-made salsas. From Saturday through Monday, enjoy live music at the restaurant, special giveaways and all-day Happy Hour including $4 tacos and discounted apps and beverages.

Someburros

Multiple locations
Someburros has been serving Sonoran-style family recipes across the valley since 1986. Across all locations, guests can enjoy the "Five Days of Cinco," event taking place Thursday through Monday. Specials include $5 bean and cheese burritos, $5 margaritas and $5-off Fiesta Platters. Plus, use code CINCO on the Someburros App to unlock additional discounts.

Taco Guild

546 E. Osborn Road
Housed in a former Methodist church that predates Arizona’s statehood is Taco Guild. While the building has undergone renovations more than once, the stained glass windows and beautiful historic elements remain. The unique digs serve as a backdrop for customers to enjoy a wide variety of spirits and innovative taco offerings. This holiday weekend, the restaurant will host live music from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday night. Tequila samples will be available Friday through Monday along with a menu special called the Gringo Taco — a fusion of Mexican and American flavors.

The vibrant restaurant from chef Joey Maggiore will be celebrating all weekend at both locations with $4 Mexican Candy shots, BYO margarita buckets (including a souvenir bucket and $5 Cointreau floaters), and a Corona on the house for the first 100 bar guests.

On Monday at the Cactus location only, treat yourself to a meal crafted by the chef of a Michelin-starred restaurant.

The pop-up will include a Taco and Tequila Flight Board for $40. This includes Jose Cuervo Reserva Platino, Reposado, and Extra Añejo plus the award-winning tacos. The Mexicano’s signature tacos will be crafted in collaboration with chef Mario Hernández Alonso, who will be on-site making them himself. Alonso is the mastermind behind the world’s first Michelin-starred taqueria in Mexico City, Tacos El Califa de León.
