Roosevelt Row has countless spots to sip a cocktail or slam a pint. But for wine lovers, options are more limited. That will change when Turquoise Wine Bar opens on Roosevelt and Fifth streets in late July.
Turquoise replaces the short-lived Eat the Rich, a bar from the team behind Killer Whale Sex Club, Pretty Penny, F.Y.P.M. and Legends Never Die.
Jen Sinconis and Laura Hernandez opened the original Turquoise location three years ago in Glendale near Union Hills Drive and 83rd Avenue. They are franchising the wine-flights-and-small-bites spot, starting with this new bar.
“Then you truly have somebody from that community running each location,” Sinconis says.
Customers will find a selection of about 40 global wines available by the glass, in flights of three or transformed into sangrias and spritzes. The food menu will include charcuterie, bruschetta, flatbreads, salads and more. The downtown Phoenix location will also be open for lunch, and that menu will include a selection of paninis.
The inside of the Roosevelt Row wine bar will have a “'Great Gatsby' meets 'Alice in Wonderland' vibe,” Sinconis says, with a wine wall, eclectic art, crystal chandeliers and a long blue velvet couch. The space also has a shaded patio that will be dog-friendly. Unique to the Roosevelt Row space is a “girly” Champagne lounge available to reserve for group events.
Sinconis calls Turquoise a modern-day version of Cheers, the Boston tavern "where everybody knows your name."
“We’re a local wine bar but really what we are selling is community,” she says. “It is very comfortable. It is very community-centric. There are no TVs; people actually talk and connect.”
