It’s rare that we get the chance to watch an artist craft a masterpiece. Especially when the finished work is rejected by the company that funded it and is subsequently leaked onto the Internet, then is purchased by a subsidiary of the company that originally lost interest in the project.
Luckily for director Sam Jones and Wilco fans alike, this hurly-burly process was captured in the 2000 flick I Am Trying to Break Your Heart while the band recorded its iconic record Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. With more drama than an entire season of Hell’s Kitchen, Jones’ classic documentary is a must-see for music fans of all types.
Hoodlums New & Used Music and Changing Hands Bookstore are co-hosting a free screening of the film at the bookstore starting. Afterward, get your hand stamped and scoot over to the record shop for “a special that-night-only discount.”
