Zarco Guerrero wants to teach us to laugh in the face of death during this year’s Día de Los Muertos holiday.
The master sculptor – a mask-making guru who has honed his skills studying worldwide for more than 30 years – created a series of Día de Los Muertos-inspired works called Calacas Encantadas (enchanted skulls). On Sunday, October 18, he showcases them and dishes about the sacred holiday during his Day of the Dead: A Storytelling Celebration.
Guerrero – whose expertise on Latino and Native American visages is sought from all over the United States and Mexico – will display his exotic masked characters while getting all storyteller-like on the crowd at ASU Kerr Cultural Center.
